The Enquiry Group is made up of people who are interested in finding out more about the Church.
Some people who join the group are actively intending to be received into the Catholic Church – others simply want to find out more about the Catholic religion.
Meetings are based on the Mass readings for the coming Sunday. We explore the way in which the readings of the Old and New Testaments touch our own lives. As we read and discuss together we also deepen our understanding of the life and the teaching of Jesus and how his message reaches out to each one of us today.
During the meetings, which last for an hour and a half once a week, people share their own beliefs, discuss what the week’s readings seem to be saying to them and look for the ways in which they relate to our own religious practice.
For those who are set to join the Church there are also occasions when they are introduced to the parish community and to the Bishop. And then there is the wonderful experience of their Reception into full communion with the Catholic Church with the sacraments of Confirmation and the Eucharist. This usually takes place during the Easter Vigil Liturgy at the end of Lent.
During the enquiry process there are opportunities for the “enquirers” to enter into the life of the parish and to feel the warmth of the Catholic community here in the parish of St Joseph’s and St Alban’s.
