Father George Percy Higgins was born on 27 July 1902 to Percy and Isobel Higgins (nee Lawson) in Shrewsbury. His father was of English descent and a convert. Father Higgins was educated at Douai (1915-1921) and the English College, Rome (1921-1928) where he obtained a Ph.D. and was ordained in 1927.
Father Higgins became Curate at St John’s, New Ferry (1928-1935); Parish Priest at St Edward’s, Runcorn (1935-1950); Administrator at Shrewsbury Cathedral (1950-1951) and Parish Priest St. Albans Liscard (1951-1980) being appointed Canon in 1959. He was noted as a man of prayer and confessor.
Canon Higgins retired in September 1980 but died on 3 November 1980 and is buried at Frankby Cemetary, Wirral. An excellent obituary on Canon Higgins appeared in the Shrewsbury Diocesan Year Book.
